Armies of the Warhammer 40,000 Universe

Building an army is one of the most important steps when playing Warhammer 40k. Each decision you make, from selecting an army to painting your own models, is a fun and inspiring part of your "career" in the game. Warhammer 40k has many races that fight constantly in the battlefield, and here is a rundown of the major 40k armies that you could select to play with:

The Space Marines are the superhuman warriors created by the Emperor to be the many defenders of mankind. The space marines are only small in number, but their private strengths and flexible tactics still make them one of the strongest 40k armies available.

The Imperial Guard is the Imperium's largest army. This army is composed of thousands of brave soldiers that do all they can to keep humanity safe. Game Workshop, the originator of Warhammer 40k, describes the Imperial Guard as a "sledgehammer" that can crush its opponents by its sheer whole and clashing tanks.

The Eldars are one of the most old races in the Warhammer universe. Their many benefit in battle is its speed and developed technology. However, a great frailness of the Eldars is their lack of toughness. Unlike most armies, the Eldars only take a few blows before they get destroyed in the battlefield.

The faultless opposite of the Eldars are the Orks. The Orks are an uncivilized race and they use rather crude weapons, but they are one of the toughest 40k armies in the battlefield. The Orks are tall and muscular, and they use this as an benefit in battle. The Ork's may lack mobility in war, but their great whole and capability to withstand damage makes them very tough to beat.

The Taus are one of the youngest species in the Warhammer world. But to make up for their lack of experience, the Taus have aggressively vast their home since their first encounters with the Imperium of Man. Now, the Taus enjoy classic technology and firepower that makes them strong especially in long-range battles.

The Tyranids are one of the most feared 40k armies to date. These bio-engineered beasts trip in hives and destroy all that falls on their paths. The Tyranids are the extreme attack army that do well in close combat battles. Indeed, their many benefit is their ferocity, fearing no casualties as long as their goal, which is to destroy, is accomplished.

The Necrons are an old race that has been in existence even longer than the Eldars. It's easy to see how these robot-like 40k armies have survived all these years as they are notorious for their capability to dispell great amounts of bodily damage and their Gauss weapons and technology.

The troops of Chaos are the many enemies of the human race. It is composed of the daemons of Chaos, and those who have turned their backs on the Imperium and turned to Chaos. The daemons of Chaos can possess even the most loyal members of the Imperium of Man and turn them into traitors that will fight against the Imperium.

These are only the major species that form the world of Warhammer 40k. These 40k armies have other sub-populations, some having playable models as well and others only being mentioned in the back-story. Together, these 40k armies and characters make up the unique galaxy that serves as the battlefield in the constant fight in the middle of good and evil.
